Achla Designs Room-to-Room Minuteman Doorway Fan

Customer Review

We've just received two of these, and they are everything they say and more. They are quiet enough for bedrooms, as they literally make no noise whatsoever. And they move a surprising amount of air, despite not being able to "feel" it blowing very much. We have a small wood stove positioned in the center of an old fireplace. We hung these fans in the corners of the fireplace and were shocked at how much hot (not warm, hot!) air they move (we've got one pointing in and one pointing out for optimal air flow). This product is highly recommended. The only thing unknown is shelf life...if there is a problem with the motor casing in the future, we will change our review. But for now, two thumbs up.
Thru-Wall Room to Room Fan

Customer Review

I have lived in the home I am in for over 14 years and have always had a problem in the winter with getting heat from the wood stove into the back bedroom. With this through the wall fan it has increased the temperature by about 5 to 7 degrees. It was worth the price for the extra comfort.
Nordic Pure 16x25x5 Honeywell Replacement AC Furnace Air Filters MERV 12, Box of 2

Customer Review

I pulled my MERV 8 out and stuck this one in... I'm surprised at the airflow difference, I thought the air flow would have gone down, but the flow is actually better. I have an incense stick burning, down the hall from the intake; it usually blows the stink'um throughout the house in a diluted manner... I couldn't smell the incense until the A/C shut off. Maybe my house will smell better now? Kind of confusing but if it takes the pollen down a notch I'll be happier.
FC100A1037 Honeywell 20x25x5 MERV 10 Filter Media

Customer Review
The filter arrived quickly and in perfect condition. It was as described. It works perfectly and is as described. I'm very happy with service and product!
20x25x5 MERV 11 Air Bear High Efficiency Replacement Filter (2 Pack)

Customer Review

The efficiency of these filters is comparable to none. I usually get the MERV11 filters; the more the MERV rating the finer dust particles are captured. With the MERV 11 filters I have seen a decline in the number of times my four year old daughter catches cold and allergies. These filters do an outstanding job of keeping dust out.
The seller ships very quickly usually the next day if the order is placed by 5PM the previous day.
16x25x4-MERV12 A/C Furnace Air Filters by Nordic Pure (Box of 6)

Customer Review

I have been pleasantly surprised by this filter. Using them since 2008, they have captured quite a bit of dust and been very sufficient. Great product for the price!
Honeywell Humidifier Installation Kit for HE360

Customer Review

It really makes the house feel warmer at lower temperatures. The installation is not that easy, but a Dremel with a cutting wheel helped a lot cutting the sheet metal. Make sure you have a floor drain as it does leak water out of the drain.
Honeywell 32001876-001 Solenoid Valve Kit

Customer Review
If you need to replace your defective solenoid valve on a humidifier this kit provides everything you will need to get the job done.
Lux TX9100E 7 Day Universal Programmable Thermostat

Customer Review
Consumer Reports said this unit was best at maintaining temperature. I live in the hot humid south and it does what is says and keeps whole house temp conformable.

Five Solutions to Solve Your Noisy Air Filter Problems

Air filter noises are all too common in residential heating and air conditioning equipment and there are many causes. Although it's the noise that gets your attention, that may only be the symptom of a much bigger problem. Undersized return grills and return ducts are unfortunately very common. They are also the most difficult problems to correct. However, there some other reasons for air conditioner filters being noisy that you should consider first.

Are humidifiers for hot air systems efficient?
Here a lot of variables to consider if any given humidifier is good for any particular house or not. Learn how to increase its efficiency on this page.

Yes, you can see a picture of such installation on this page.

Can I not install cold air returns?
Oh dear, you cannot! Dude, just install it and be done with it.

Can I use my dryer exhaust as heater?
I think this is an excellent idea! For example, you can buy some few hundreds of feet of the aluminized flex and run it throughout your house! But wait a second, isn't it suppose to be not longer than 25' with all elbows unclouded!?! I am sorry, but it is a very bright idea!

Can my heat strip in my Amana air handler cause high humidity?
No.

Can outside phone line cause high pitch sound in cold air?

I assume that it is best to run each room with its own supply from the supply plenum.
But if you are limited on supply plenum space, what are the rules or does and don'ts about combining 2 rooms with one main large (combined CFM for the 2 rooms) supply from the supply plenum to each room via a wye splitter?
Example: could I have a supply of 7 inch that split to a 5 for a closet and 6 for a bath?

Yes, you can do that. its a common method in many areas.

I currently have a metal furnace filter and have used it for the last 5 yrs. should I stick with it or switch to a Filtrete High Performance Filter?
Filters except 3m are rated in MERV (Google that for more info). The higher the MERV the more air is restricted and the harder it is for your furnace fan to move it. This can result in an overheated and damaged furnace or frozen and damaged AC. The only way to know for sure is to try it and check the temp. rise thru the furnace after it has run for 5 minutes. Stick a thermometer in the supply duct downstream a foot away from the plenum and subtract the house temp from it and check the temp rise specs on the model # sticker inside the furnace. I recommend a MERV 8 filter and unless you have a newer furnace with an ECM motor and large ductwork, you can have problems with the more restrictive types. AC needs checking by a Pro to see if it has enough airflow.

Is it normal steam coming from furnace exhaust?
Yes.

Is it ok to increase the ducting on a fan from 3" to 4" along the run?

Is smooth dryer venting better than kinked?
Absolutely.

Is there negative pressure in modern heat exchangers?
Yes.

Is wood touching ductwork dangerous?

The defrosting effect comes from the heat being gathered into the indoor coil as the system runs in defrost.

It is at a great price for what it offers and really you don't need the others at higher prices this one is awesome. Fairly easy to install and fit perfect over the existing hole for me. X6673 Lennox 20x25x5 MERV 10 Filter Media

Honeywell CF100A1009 4-Inch High Efficiency Air Cleaner Filter

Customer Review
The filter is used for my whole house. However, I have 2 other normal 20x20x1 in filters that pre filter air before it hits this one. I expect it to last a year. It is very flimsy but much lower cost that Lowes unit that appears to be higher filter quality. It would be good to review my choice next year. Need to be careful and not pick a filter that blocks the airflow too much. Also check your unit measurements as all filters are not quite 4 in thick sometimes.
Honeywell CF200A1620/E 4-Inch Ultra Efficiency Air Cleaner Filter 16 x 20 x 4 Inches

Customer Review

The Honeywell 16x25x4 Ultra air filter replaced an Electrostatic Air filter that wasn't living up to all the hype that came with it. Before installing the Honeywell unit I had my ducts professionally cleaned, I could not believe the amount of junk that came out of my system. So far the new Honeywell Ultra is doing a fine job; there is a noticeable difference in the air we breathe and no dust anywhere. I will inspect the filter on a monthly basis and replace as needed. So far, so good.

Panasonic FV-08WQ1 WhisperWall 70 CFM Wall Mounted Fan

Customer Review
If you have issues installing a ceiling bath fan, this is what you want. It installs very cleanly, works great and is very quiet. It is a high quality product worth its price. Everything but the wiring and a control is in the box. Also comes with everything needed for 2 X 4 or 2 X 6 walls.

Tjernlund AireShare Room-To-Room Ventilator

Customer Review
Just installed this fan and am very happy with it. Quiet, moves plenty of air and relatively easy to install. One comment is the instructions don't emphasize that both the fan and the diffuser are directional that is, they each have an opening which must face the other. If this is not noticed, either unit's housing would block the air flow towards the other unit Another thing to note is the possibility of a 'block' in the wall cavity. If one unit is mounted high and the other low, one needs to probe the cavity to make sure there is not a 2x4 block midway. The hard part of this installation is accessing and wiring power to the fan, which can involve cutting access holes in the wall and possibly installing a junction box. Not for the casual do it yourself person.
In short, a professional product and far better than the usual cheap, noisy bathroom fan.
